Immunization Data Quality Assessment for Punjab’s Electronic and Paper-Based Immunization
SPHERE supported UNICEF in assessing immunization data quality across selected BHUs and RHCs in Punjab by comparing HMIS and EPI-MIS records with facility registers to identify reporting gaps and strengthen data accuracy and reliability.
SPHERE Consulting supported UNICEF in conducting an immunization data quality assessment across selected Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centres (RHCs) in Punjab. The assessment compared electronic vaccination data from the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) and Expanded Programme on Immunization Management Information System (EPI-MIS) with facility-based immunization registers to identify discrepancies in reporting. The study assessed the magnitude and causes of data inconsistencies including data entry errors, underreporting, and overreporting and developed evidence-based recommendations to strengthen the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of routine immunization data systems for improved monitoring and decision-making.
